Historian David Chang at the University of Minnesota has studied how Indigenous communities in Oklahoma adapted to forced relocation during the nineteenth century. Chang found that rather than simply enduring displacement, many communities actively rebuilt social networks and cultural institutions within months of arriving in unfamiliar territory.
